Customer was looking for a solution for a seat assembly fixture, able to handle multiple parts for automotive customers. The station needed to have a right and left side, mirrored on the assembly line. It would be able to install multiple seat springs and then bend a sheet metal tab over the springs to encapsulate them. The stations needed to meet aggressive cycle times, high accuracy, and smooth, controlled motion parameters. |

MRM designed (2) identical stations that would straddle the plant conveyor. The conveyor would bring in the seat fixture, pre-loaded by manual operators. The MRM frame unit would use Tolomatic servo cylinders and special gripper fingers to grab and pull the springs over the seat back tabs. The conveyor would bring the seat back fixture to the next part of the frame unit, where a tab bending cylinder would encapsulate the springs via sheet metal tabs. Due to variations between seat styles, and having to avoid collision points in the tooling, multi-axis servo units were utilized. This application required significant programming features - just another advantage of MRM Incorporated. |
