Problem:

A manufacturer of automated welding equipment needed a way to move weld guns to a part. Each gun had to travel in 3 axes and stop in multiple positions to perform several welds. Cycle time was critical. Due to space and cost limits a robot was not feasible.

Solution:

MRM identified the application for EPI by "thinking out of the box". MRM and EPI quickly made a proposal with CAD drawings to position each weld gun. The proposal was rejected because of cost.

MRM and EPI worked with the customer to improve the design of the machine. MRM and EPI created a new proposal that met the budget while decreasing cycle time and reducing the size of the machine. With EPI slides, 2 machines could have the output of 3.
